Synopsis:
A chemist named Norcross creates a pool of black acid that at one time was going to be used for certain medical and scientific research purposes. Instead, he uses the fluid as a means of profit when his gunmen pick up prominent head bank tellers, forcing them to reveal all they know about inside and outside safe combinations — and bank robberies follow. After disposing of the tellers in the acid, the police assume the missing bank employees committed the crimes — open and shut cases. Lamont, however, doesn’t suspect one of the tellers committed the crimes. He sets out to visit every butcher shop, hoping to learn the identity of a non-butcher who would order half a cow, later discovering it was for the purpose of demonstrating the sophistication of the black acid pool. When Norcross and his men are about to eliminate their latest teller, Martin Goodrich, The Shadow takes over the situation, keeping the gangsters at bay and distracted long enough for Weston and his men to come collect the guilty parties.
