Margot ventures through the swamp alone, encountering Ely, the mad house servant. Lamont comes to her rescue but Ely is not the culprit. When the plantation goes up in flames, The Shadow races in to find Calhoun crying for assistance. The Shadow laughs, knowing the man feigned paralysis to mask his vicious murder plot.As the stepfather, he killed his stepchildren, determined to keep his avaricious relatives from getting his money. Desperate to escape the invisible voice and the flames, Calhoun breaks a window and attempts to jump but The Shadow pulls him back and saves him for the police.
