Synopsis:
Lamont and Margot are interested in an ex-convict named Jeff, who has just been released from prison six months early for good behavior. During an argument, Jeff kills his friend Steve and later robs his filling station. While Commissioner Weston and his men set about the streets trying to find the killer, Lamont suspects another influence is behind the crimes — Hymie, who was set to die in the chair forty-eight hours after Jeff was released. Under Hymie’s coaxing, Jeff believes his wife was cheating on him with Steve. Before skipping town, Jeff visits Ann one last time and, in a fit of anger, shoots her dead. The Shadow arrives too late, taking the gun away from Jeff and explaining that Steve had no involvement with Ann. She earned the clothes and furniture by working as a hostess in a dance hall but was ashamed to tell Jeff. The Shadow informs Jeff that Hymie died in the electric chair and all of the coaxing and teasing was in Jeff’s head — good versus evil in his conscious and subconscious mind.
