Synopsis:

Professional forger Fred Janci is working with the assistant manager of the city bank, Warren Harnett, in an embezzlement scheme paying off thousands. Fred impersonates the owners of inactive accounts and, through verification of signatures by Harnett, the men make a steady profit. Edna Sommers, Warren’s fiancée, is the sugarcoated enticement for Harnett to commit the deeds, unaware she is really the girlfriend of Fred Janci. When depositor Robert Ballon makes an appearance, Fred makes the necessary arrangements to dispose of him. Tipped off by Ballon’s phone call before he was murdered, Lamont investigates Ballon’s investments. When Harnett’s conscience gets the better of him, he decides to contact the police. With a little assistance from Margot, The Shadow saves Harnett’s life when Fred makes arrangements to eliminate Harnett before leaving town. The next morning, Fred visits the bank and, after making a withdrawal, finds himself facing Harnett who identifies the crook for the police.
