Synopsis:

The plans of Vic Allison, which involved inheriting his brother’s fortune, undergo drastic revision when his brother George brings a bride to his Southern home. Lamont and Margot, guests at the Allison mansion, celebrate the marriage. Late that evening, George suffers a heart attack and his new bride Fern, fails to retrieve his pills so he will die and she can inherit the two million dollars. She succeeds but not without a small catch — Vic witnessed the event and blackmails her for money. As the days pass, Vic begins to cash large checks and The Shadow pretends to be the ghost of George to get a confession. When Captain Rogers of the Homicide Squad arrives to question the death as a possible murder, Fern, driven out of her mind, commits suicide. Vic decrees that no autopsy will be performed, giving Lamont cause to suspect George was poisoned to give the appearance of a heart attack. The Shadow plays a guilty conscience on Vic, forcing him to confess to the police.
