Synopsis:
Trying to help John Grayhurst solve the mystery of hearing his own voice demanding that he kill his wife, Lamont and Margot attempt to find a rational reason for the voice in Grayhurst’s head. Hilstead, the maid, is stabbed with a letter opener but the doctors say she will live. Panicking, John seeks sanctuary in his study while wife Edna locks herself in her room until Lamont returns from a quick investigation. However, John cannot control the voice telling him to kill and. on a murderous impulse, breaks into her room, knocks Margot down and attempts to stab his wife. The Shadow holds John’s arm back while revealing the method behind the madness. John has trouble hearing and his hearing aid is the cause. Eric, his young nephew, was using a small transmitter to mimic his uncle’s voice and make John think he was hearing it and going crazy. The motive was the family fortune but after being exposed by the unseen voice known as The Shadow Eric hangs his head in shame, realizing he will have no part of his uncle’s fortune.
