Synopsis:
Lamont and Margot are at Darkcliff Manor investigating the supposed return of Eliza Haydon, an old woman who devoted time to spiritualism and died exactly one year ago that evening. Two of the Haydon children meet their deaths at the hands of Aunt Eliza, through the same methods with which they used to play tricks on the old woman when she was alive. Gretchen’s body is found stuffed in a trunk, Peter falls over the sun deck to his death and Doug is bitten by a poisonous snake while hiding out in a secret laboratory. Realizing the “ghost” could enter and exit at will, Lamont and Margot seek the secret passage from the laboratory and discover Mr. Haydon, the stepfather, conspiring with the very-much-alive Aunt Eliza. After the deadly accident that almost cost her life, Haydon kept her alive in a secret room for an entire year until he could set her free as a ghost to seek vengeance on the children, and he could inherit the family fortune. Angry, Eliza shoots Haydon and The Shadow laughs after discovering the truth — she really is out of her mind.
