Synopsis:
Lil Santell and her brother, Reno, operate a badger game — specializing in trapping and blackmailing rich, married men. They are particularly dangerous because they drove two of their victims to suicide. Their latest victim is Walter Knight, who is suffering from amnesia, unable to remember a period of four hours. Walter’s wife, Pat, stands by her man while he attempts to unlock the truth of those hours and flees town before the police can pick him up. Walter suspects he committed a murder and murders Reno Santell in a struggle to the death. As The Shadow, Lamont questions the dying Reno to get the facts behind the case. Lil convinced Walter to murder his wife and make it look like an accident. She intended to marry him so she would inherit his money after he was caught and sentenced to the chair. The Shadow arrives in time to help Walter recall the details of his wife’s murder and that the woman posing as his wife is really Lil Santell.Tortured by the sounds of the murder, Walter doesn’t hear a car coming down the street. That car smashes into him, killing him instantly.
