Synopsis:
Murder sealed the lips of Walter Torrence before he could testify against racketeer Jim Buckley. In desperation, Special Investigator John Shannon calls on Lamont. Meanwhile, Buckley is employed at the County Building and makes his acquaintance with Agnes Wheeler, Shannon’s confidential secretary. While getting to know the ugly duckling on a personal level, Jerry Scott is about to get the inside track on the file with information on Buckley. When Mike Kardos is murdered outside town while in police custody, Lamont suspects an inside source. The Shadow questions Agnes while Margot follows the girl and Jerry, learning how the leak got out. Before Jerry can murder Agnes, The Shadow arrives and saves the girl’s life. The next morning, Lamont pays a visit to Buckley, placing him under arrest for murder, attempted murder and racketeering — Jerry is going to testify to cop a plea bargain.
