Synopsis:

Gambling czar Lew Ames was acquitted of murder after his first wife, Clare, was shot to death at a hunting lodge outside of town. Lew had an ironclad alibi, but police still suspect he hired a killer to do the job. When Lew’s new wife, Fay, pays Lamont and Margot a visit to plead for protection, someone takes a shot at her from the window. Ballistics proves the bullet was fired from the same weapon that killed Clare two years earlier. Lamont visits the waterfront to purchase the murder weapon and risks his life when someone shoots the seller dead. Learning that Fay is being escorted to Lew’s hunting lodge, Lamont travels north to prevent another killing but is too late when Fay is shot dead. Returning to the apartment of Vince, Lew’s strong-arm lieutenant, The Shadow finds the truth: Vince wanted Lew out of the way so he could take over the club for himself. He planned it so the murder would fall on Lew, but his employer had too good an alibi. He waited and tried again with the same gun against the second Mrs. Ames. He then tried to have the murder weapon passed on to Lamont to cinch the case against Lew. The men struggle and Lew punches the killer to the ground so the police can apprehend Vince.
