Synopsis:
Shortly after Margot innocently purchases a stolen art treasure, valued at ten times more than she paid, Lamont follows the trail to the castle-like home of Vandermeyer Breuder, an eccentric refugee-collector who spends his evenings verifying the authenticity of his own art collection. There strange murders occur and Marie, the maid, is shot and killed. Emil the butler is forced to work with Lukie, the strong-arm of Mr. Otto who specializes in the sale of valuable antiques and treasures. Lamont and Margot find the body of Breuder in the cellar and discover the servants have been selling the Breuder treasures piece by piece to Otto and Lukie. Catching Emil in the act of thievery, Lamont overpowers Lukie and ties him up for the police. Margot, meanwhile, attempts to lock herself in a guest room and comes face to face with Mr. Otto masquerading as Breuder. Otto killed the real collector some time ago but before making off with the collection the servants summoned from Europe by Breuder arrived. Hence the masquerade. Otto planned to sell the collection for a large sum of money and use the two ready-made fall guys for the thievery. The Shadow laughs as he reveals the failure of their scheme. He alerted the police and now the law knocks on the door.
