Synopsis:
The tiny volcanic island of Alahayo was a native paradise until The Neptune Fisheries began development, producing fabulous revenue for the firm of Peders, Luce and Travis. An old fortuneteller’s prophecy proves fatal at Mr. Peders’ plantation house — his partner Luce dies by fire and partner Travis by water. If the prophecy holds true, Peders will die by steel. After holding an emergency counsel, assisted by vacationers Lamont and Margot, they learn from a meteorologist named Torgesson that the Minotau volcano is set to explode within twenty-four hours. Peders, however, meets with the murderer and is stabbed before he can leave. Lamont and Margot go to the mainland to discover house servant, Noah, and Torgesson are alive and well.Torgesson applied for the franchise to the Neptune Fisheries, aware that the previous owners were dead, and used Noah to commit the crimes to make doubly sure that the men would not escape the wrath of the volcano. The Shadow laughs as their scheme is exposed and officers of the United States Coast Guard arrive to escort the criminals away.
