Synopsis:
Georgiana, the adopted daughter of the late Squire Charmers, questions her sanity when her father’s secretary, Mr. Woodleigh, informs her that she is responsible for the Squire’s unsolved murder. Suspecting she kills while sleepwalking, Georgiana agrees not to see her husband, Alfredo Santa Markia, a gypsy boy in the nearby village whom she secretly married two weeks before. Georgiana calls on Lamont Cranston and Margot Lane who witness the murder of the gypsy house servant named Ronrita. It doesn’t take long for Cranston to discover that Alfredo is the true murderer. He killed the squire after marrying Georgiana with the plan of destroying her and inheriting Charmers’ fortune and estate. Ronrita knew the secret of Alfredo’s birth so he was forced to kill her. The blackmailing Woodleigh was murdered because he was a menacing, hypocritical thief who would have bled Alfredo dry for the help he’d given. Confronted with the secret, Alfredo meets The Shadow just moments before committing another murder — this time Georgiana. When the police arrive, Alfredo attempts to flee by climbing the rocky cliff side. The police shout warnings and, after firing their guns, watch as he falls to his death.
