Synopsis:

Veteran stage actor T. Lambert Welles is murdered and Weston finds three suspects: his housekeeper, his wife and a stagehand named Arthur Masland. As the sleuths investigate, the mystery gets complicated. All three suspects have a motive, but all three can prove their whereabouts at the time of the murder. Masland was having an affair with Mrs. Welles and the dead thespian left all his money to the housekeeper. Realizing that the murder weapon remains hidden, Lamont risks his neck to find it. Welles rigged a gun outside the window, complete with string and spring to conceal the weapon once his suicide was complete. Having learned from a doctor that he had only weeks to live, the actor attempted to frame Masland for the murder so the lovebirds would never be together after his death.
