Synopsis:
Roy Merwood, a friend of Lamont’s father, is found murdered. All the suspects give testimony that implicates them as having a motive. Mrs. Merwood confessed she only remained married to Roy because of his money. Her sister, Cissy, did not like watching her sister in torment. Roy’s business secretary, Danvers, with a habit of cracking his knuckles, claims he knows who committed the crime but chooses to withhold evidence from the investigation. Mrs. Merwood is murdered before the police can dig into the facts and Danvers is killed before he can change his mind. The police handcuff Cissy as the only suspect left. Worried, Margot leaves for home but she meets the elevator boy who keeps cracking his knuckles and realizes that Danvers faked his own death so he could murder his widow. His motive was the family fortune, which he placed in a sack, with intentions of running off after faking his own death and killing anyone who stood in his way. The Shadow arrives to save Margot from becoming the next victim in Danvers’ scheme.
