Synopsis:
Tommy Hamlin, young man about town, has persuaded Margot and Lamont to help him follow a trail that might lead to his wife’s murderer. He was drunk the night she was killed and a witness named Rose Marcel, whom he picked up at the Gilded Cage, may substantiate his fears that he committed the crime. Hugo Kirk, a cheap crook who owns the bar and a casino in the back, shoots Rose Marcel — the only witness in the case — just as The Shadow is about to learn the truth. When Kirk picks up Tommy with intentions of eliminating the playboy, The Shadow arrives to save the kid and unearth the solution to the case: Kirk was the murderer. The crook wanted Mrs. Hamlin’s money, and when she would not divorce Tommy, he killed her in a fit of anger. Hoping to frame Tommy, who was too drunk to remember any of the evening’s events, he discovered Rose was a witness to the killing and figured Tommy also could take the blame for Rose’s death.
