Horace Blake is charged with the murder of Archie Windsor, an influential and wealthy playboy about town, because Windsor had plans to marry Blake’s nineteen year old daughter. Lamont inspects the crime scene and, after examining the bloody shoe prints on the floor, suspects Blake is innocent. Following a trail of pearls that are missing from the safe, Lamont believes robbery is the motive until he discovers that Windsor returned the pearls to the store for a refund. When young Ellen Blake is kidnapped, Lamont turns to his Shadow alias to question Windsor’s cousin and confidential secretary, Selby. Selby was a former stage actor who was caught stealing the pearls and, after killing Windsor, impersonated the dead man so he could profit from the jewels. When Ellen discovered the truth, she was kidnapped. The Shadow knocks the knife out of Selby’s hand before Margot might become another victim.
