Synopsis:
Andrew Coakley is convicted of attempting to swindle the city out of a fortune through construction graft when handed a contract to build the new subway system for the city. But he escapes jail. He contacts Lamont to tease the millionaire responsible for his conviction. Coakley demands a ransom of one hundred thousand dollars from Lamont or he will stalk and kill innocent people in the subways every night until he receives the payoff. After two people are murdered, Lamont attempts to deliver the extortion money. Against Lamont’s wishes, Weston and his men attempt to apprehend the criminal and fail, angering Coakley into continuing his murder spree. Forcing Lamont in a corner, Coakley kidnaps Margot to ensure the second payoff effort will go off without police interference. Arranging for the subway power station to cut off electricity, The Shadow faces off against Coakley in the tunnels, leaving Margot safe inside one of the trains. Knocking Coakley unconscious for the arriving police, The Shadow laughs as he exits the tunnel.
