Synopsis:
Unwilling to reject Jim Reynolds’ alibi and his claim of innocence, Lamont and Margot undertake the prospect of proving he was not responsible for the murder of his wife. Jim claims to have gone to Philadelphia to get a ruby from his parents’ house only to return empty-handed — someone stole the ruby. Lamont and Margot question the employees on the train and follow the trail to Mary Hoyt, a young college girl with a severe case of kleptomania. Following close on Lamont and Margot’s heels is Roger Small, Jim’s best friend, who waits until Mary is alone so he can strangle her. The ruby in her possession would verify Jim’s alibi and give the police a reason to start searching for the real murderer — Roger Small. The Shadow arrives in time to prevent a second murder and holds Roger at bay long enough for the arriving police to take over.
