Synopsis:

At the invitation of the noted archeologist, Professor Henry Raymond, Lamont and Margot drive out to a remote and desolate plain on their way to an area known only as Cazatan, where Raymond recently unearthed an ancient Indian temple mound. Professor Chernov, an authority on the archeology of northeastern Asia and the study of American Indians, is found dead with a flaming arrow in his back. Lamont questions the three remaining members of the expedition and learns that everyone had a grudge against the dead man. Two more flaming arrows pierce the night — one hitting Clyde and the other missing Professor Raymond. A giant of an Indian named Red Wing warns the archeologists that he protects the places of the Old Ones from defilement by the white man and that a curse has been placed on them. Lamont and Margot soon discover that Red Wing is not involved with the murders and the flaming arrows were just a smoke screen. The Indians are mining uranium ore. Professor Raymond planted an ingenious spring device on top of a shed to make the sleuths believe he was not responsible for the arrow that missed him by inches. The Shadow prevents additional murders by tricking Raymond into firing his flaming arrows at him and then breaks the bow so he will be unarmed when police arrive.
