Synopsis:
After being called to police headquarters by Commissioner Weston on a “Joan Doe” complaint over which the police have no legal jurisdiction, Lamont goes to Professor Orloff’s office to investigate. Lamont questions Professor Orloff’s motives when he learns that Donald Acton, a brilliant young math student with photographic memory and pliable will, has agreed to perform experiments with the professor. Margot spends her hours trying to prevent Ruth Hollis, Donald’s fiancée, from shooting the professor. Donald works for the Research Institute, and she fears the security officers will have Donald fired if he is giving away valuable information. The Shadow visits the professor as he straps Donald to a chair for one final experiment, so his machine can extract any worthwhile information from Donald that he can sell. The angry Shadow punches the professor unconscious, removes the straps from Donald and orders him to take full credit for subduing the crook. “No one will believe anything else,” remarks The Shadow.
