Synopsis:

An eccentric old spinster named Linda Van Doren is fatally shot but lives long enough to name her murderer — her brother Edward. The black sheep of the family, Edward was believed to be in prison in South Africa but was recently released and returned to America. Linda’s only other brother, Aaron, is also murdered and he, too, lives long enough to name Edward as his killer. When Lamont and Margot pay Edward a visit, they discover he is paralyzed from the waist down — unable to take a single step. After the police department’s doctor verifies this, Lamont solves the mystery. Briggs, the English butler, is really Edward in disguise. The man posing as Edward is really a crippled actor picked up in a honky tonk in Johannesburg. When the real Edward attempts to murder the cripple and make it appear like an accident to cover his tracks, The Shadow laughs — the police are arriving because the scheme has been exposed.
