Synopsis:
World famous scientist Dr. Albert Fain dies of a heart attack when he realizes that somehow — in a trance which no one can understand — he shot and killed his best friend during an award ceremony. With his last breath, he mentions he was controlled by an unseen force and has a black book naming the only person responsible. Lamont and Margot visit Fain’s apartment and find the book. When the disappearance of a top atomic scientist has alerted all the law enforcement agencies in the country, the sleuths assume there is a connection and visit the laboratory of John Carmichael and his assistant Gregory, who were named in the book. Carmichael perfected a device that merges psycho-wavelengths so when the two tones merge, a person’s mind is under his control. Attempting to murder the sleuths and extract information about mobile atomic artillery from the kidnapped scientist using his equipment, Carmichael discovers his plans have been blown apart when The Shadow interferes with the device.
