Synopsis:

Called to an isolated seaside resort hotel as it is about to close for the season, Lamont and Margot fail to find the owner, who summoned them to investigate the deaths of three guests. A narrow path overhanging a cliff along the hotel grounds proves disastrous during a gusty storm and the local police rule it the cause of the deaths. Lamont suspects murder and meets with the only suspects in town: a waitress named Rita, her uncle, Captain Zeb and Greg Tyler, the clerk of the inn. Greg rigged the accidents to scare people away and force the inn into bankruptcy. Intending to buy the hotel at auction next spring, Greg attempts to eliminate the meddling Lamont and his girl friend. Rita learns the truth and runs away. With intentions to murder Greg for his unwanted affections toward Rita, Captain Zeb attempts to shoot the clerk. The Shadow interferes, explaining to Zeb that the police are arriving and Greg will be taken in by the authorities and tried by a jury of his peers.
