Synopsis:
The city is caught in the grip of a nameless terror. A lurking killer haunts its dark streets and has already taken the lives of two women in the city’s North End. In desperation, Weston has sworn in a hundred volunteer civilians as auxiliary policemen and declared a curfew on the whole section of the Riverview area. When the latest victim, Mrs. Cortney, tears a piece of clothing off her assailant before she is murdered and a note and money in her purse suggest the victims are lured to the Riverview area, Lamont solves the case. Mrs. Cortney’s house servant, Ellen, collected gossip from the socialites and then reported to Fred Baily. Baily then wrote letters to the poor dupes who withdrew large sums of blackmail and went to the North End. Like the wanton murderer he is, he strangled them to keep them silent. Now, Baily attempts to kill his associate when he learns the game is up but The Shadow disarms him, forcing Ellen to call the police.
