Synopsis:

Drug tycoon Cyrus Enfield calls on his good friend Lamont to solve a mystery. Enfield’s servant was shot dead at the Southwestern ranch house. The only suspect is Bill Talbot, an employee working with his lab assistant, Karl Morell, on the trail of a new antibiotic that would be effective against all infections. The scientists were using soil taken from a valley settled by a tribe of Navaho Indians, known as the Valley of the Black Totem. Supposedly anyone who steals from the valley comes to a violent death. While Lamont questions Beretta, who claims to be a protector and guardian of the valley, Elyse attempts to assist Margot in finding out who committed the murders. Cyrus Enfield is shot dead and, once again, Bill is the lead suspect. Suspecting Bill was drugged at the time of the murders, Lamont uncovers the truth in time to save Elyse from becoming the next victim. Morell was in love with Elyse and decided to murder Spencer, the butler, to eliminate Bill from the equation. The Shadow takes the hypodermic needle out of Morell’s hand before it can be used for evil purposes.
