Synopsis:

Security authorities in Washington call on Lamont for a confidential assignment. Plans for a new long-range guided missile have fallen into the hands of foreign agents. Lamont keeps tabs on Steve Lembeck, owner and operator of a fishing company, after discovering that he is the last link in the espionage ring. When the night watchman for the Darwell Egg Company is found murdered, Lamont suspects a connection between Lembeck’s company and the egg enterprise next door. After following the clues, he poses as The Shadow to question Lembeck, who is shot dead before he can talk. After Mr. Darwell is found stabbed to death, the connection becomes clear. Agatha Grant, a snooping reporter for the local crime column, shoots the only suspect the police have and then turns the gun on Margot, knowing the police will think their suspect killed her and then himself. The Shadow knocks the gun out of her hand and laughs as the arriving police take over the situation. Later, Lamont explains to Margot that a dozen eggs were hardboiled with encoded secret messages which is how Lembeck gathered his information. Agatha Grant was an enemy agent and was making sure the plans didn’t fall into the wrong hands as a result of the first murder committed by Lembeck. She killed Lembeck after he failed and was attempting to find the eggs until Margot stumbled upon the scene.
