Synopsis:
Vacationing in the Northwest Mountains in the heart of lumber country, Lamont and Margot find the body of a man floating in the water. Investigating the death of Bill Thomas, they search the grounds around the sawmill and learn of the mysterious curse of “The Forest of Death.” It seems Old Man Haig fought against the Rice Lumber Company for the territorial rights and, after losing the legal battle, committed suicide, leaving a curse on anyone who tries to steal his lumber. The body Lamont and Margot fished out of the river was the seventh victim, and Mr. Rice starts panicking, even employing a hired gun. Lamont suspects Tom Grant, a giant of a man nicknamed Tiny, of being involved because he is the only person to enter and exit the forest freely without becoming a victim. After analyzing the clues left behind at another murder scene, Lamont discovers Old Man Haig is alive and well. With Tiny’s assistance, he faked his death and has been scaring off Rice’s employees with the series of murders. Fearful of The Shadow’s questioning, Tiny starts to panic, forcing Haig to tie the big lumberjack down. When Haig finds Margot snooping, he attempts to murder her until The Shadow releases Tiny from his bonds. Tiny, in his anger, chokes the life out of Haig but not before Haig fatally shoots his assistant.
