Synopsis:
Expert chemist Dr. Carl Featherstone murders his wealthy, reclusive brother, Auguste Clemmer, so he can fund his experiments in Formula RX4 — a gas that can paralyze a city. Suspecting foul play, Lamont joins Weston in the investigation. Purchasing a book on Egyptology, Lamont mails it anonymously to the doctor in hopes it will lure him to his brother’s crypt. Instead, The Shadow finds the doctor’s assistant Charlie trying to find the money that was hidden in a secret panel in the coffin — much like the Egyptians hid their valuables. Angry when Charlie returns empty-handed, Featherstone sets his sights on Margot and Lamont — two inquisitive people getting too close on his trail — and Andrew McAndrews of the McAndrews Chemical Laboratories who fired Featherstone just a week before. He hoped to murder them with the same chemical compound he was close to perfecting but Lamont catches on to the booby trap. This infuriates Featherstone long enough to lure Margot into a trap. The Shadow arrives and releases Margot from the chair, and the two escape just before Featherstone smashes the gas cylinder, killing himself.
