Synopsis:
Upon learning that her husband embezzled money from the bank where he works, Marie Butler convinces her lover, Tom Whitman, to murder him. Moments after the deed is done, Tom’s mind snaps and he assumes the identity of Clay Butler, the murdered man. When the bank learns of the embezzlement, they employ Lamont to discretely investigate the whereabouts of the cash. Multiple telephone tips reveal the location of the murderer and The Shadow finally catches up to the guilty parties on board the luxury liner S.S. Alpine, revealing the truth. Julia Reynolds was working with Clay Butler in a complicated scheme to embezzle money and throw the blame on Whitman. Julia’s brother was involved with the theft and when Whitman assumed he killed Butler, he really knocked out Reynolds. Butler returned to the scene of the crime and committed the murder. Learning his wife was trying to double-cross him, he murdered her. Julia and Butler then attempt to have Whitman so confused as to commit suicide on the luxury liner but The Shadow interferes. Julia takes the gun from Whitman and kills Butler. The Shadow takes her gun away so Weston can take the guilty parties in.
