Synopsis:

In search of Fay’s husband, Phil, Lamont, Margot and Fay Mansfield find themselves trapped aboard what appears to be a ghost ship. The ship left without notice and Phil, the only person they’ve seen aboard, acts as if he is a ghost, too. While investigating through the thick fog, Lamont observes other occupants on board and discovers that each of them were victims of death within the past week, suggesting they may be ghosts. The Shadow questions the skipper and discovers the captain is no longer in charge of the ship, claiming, “They must pay for their sins.” Further investigation reveals the details. A smuggler named Larson who was convicted and sent to prison is escaping from Prisoner’s Island tonight — his faithful and loyal men have captured the D.A., the presiding judge and the rest of the jury, locking them in separate cabins for Larson’s revenge. While the police patrol boat comes close to the ship, Larson opens fire against his pursuers. The Shadow momentarily interferes with the cannons on the ship, preventing the smugglers from sinking the patrol boat, and giving the police officers the edge they need to open fire. Larson is killed. The skipper happened to be Larson’s own son, who helped arrange the escapade.
