Synopsis:

Late one Christmas Eve Lamont and Margot visit the Crestwood Actors Home hoping to recruit an ex-circus clown, Bombo, to play Santa Claus for a thousand children at the Community Center. During their visit Bombo disappears and Miss Gellid, the housekeeper, explains his kidnapping was caused by “The Thing” that roams the hallways every night. Wandering the hallway alone, Margot faints when she catches a glimpse of “The Thing.” Lamont pieces the clues together to solve the mystery: An old Shakespearean actor named Barrenkent wanted to put Bombo out of the way for a few hours, so he could have the chance to play the role himself. Playing Santa Claus is the only acting left to any of the residents. Gellid, fond of Barrenkent, bribed an ex-horror actor named Kongosi to play “The Thing.”
