Synopsis:
Two days before Christmas, Lamont is playing Santa Claus at the Settlement House and meets young Sally Randeau whose father has been out of a job since being released from prison. Sam Maddis, head of the employment bureau in town, also runs a numbers racket. Maddis has arranged for Fred to lose every job he’s been hired for — wanting Fred to come back to work for him. Now with a clean slate, Fred hesitates, but with Sally wanting a doll with yellow hair for Christmas, he finally agrees. Eager to send Maddis up the river for the numbers racket, Lamont takes advantage as The Shadow, arranging for Fred to call Margot the next time receipts are to be dropped off. When Maddis catches on to the scheme, he forces Margot and Fred to the dock of a deserted waterfront to eliminate the troublemakers. The Shadow overpowers Maddis, confiscates the receipts, and orders Margot and Fred to go home. After the arrest, Lamont and Margot pack a box containing a doll with yellow hair and the name and address of a man who’s going to give Fred a good job Monday morning.
