Synopsis:
Aunt Frances recently inherited a million dollars and her offspring all conspire to become beneficiaries in the old woman’s will. Lamont and Margot are invited to the holiday party only to discover Gerald has been shot dead by an unknown assailant. The prime suspect is Clyde, who threatened Gerald’s life after he learned that the conspirator planned to wreck his relationship with Aunt Frances by hiding a letter Clyde wrote. Testing a theory, Lamont reverts to The Shadow to question the suspects and discovers that Mr. Elkhart is not really an attorney and the old woman never really inherited the money. Elkhart fell in love with Aunt Frances years ago and pretended she was inheriting a million dollars, knowing that Clyde, Eva and Gerald’s greed and deceit would provide her with at least one merry Christmas. Eva committed the murders to eliminate the only possible kin to stand in her way — and added an extra murder to save her own skin and avoid exposure. Eva attempts to flee out a window and runs into the arms of the police.
