Synopsis:

Investigating the mystery of a Lost Street in Chinatown, Lamont and Margot go in search of their friend, Carl Everett. They stumble upon the body of Yee-Lin, a member of the Han Tong, one of the most powerful and dangerous Chinese societies. Architect William Forsyth received a commission to design a new building for Lost Street and missed death from a hatchet by only an inch and a half, supposedly thrown by a killer known as The Black Slipper. When The Shadow agrees with Chang, the head of Han Tong, to trade blueprints for the life of a friend, he discovers the drawings have vanished. Margot is kidnapped by The Black Slipper who believes she knows the whereabouts of the blueprints. As Margot attempts to escape, she runs into Forsyth, dressed as a Chinaman, who attempts to kill her. The Shadow exposes the architect’s scheme and rescues Margot. Later, Lamont explains that as a draftsman, Forsyth charged construction engineers a fee for the blueprints and pocketed the money on the deal. Unfortunately for Forsyth, he used Chinatown as the location of his make-believe building. Yee-Lin was supposed to get evidence against him and was silenced for her trouble.
