Synopsis:

Brought to the swamp country by Mrs. King’s letter, Lamont and Margot have accompanied Mrs. King’s employer, Dr. Ellis, to the edge of the quicksand where a woman who calls herself the Devil’s Wife is thought to have her hideout.The swamp people are superstitious and those struck down by the curse fall victim to what appears to be heart attacks. Margot is kidnapped and Lamont and the doctor brave the quicksand to search the hut containing the Devil’s Wife. There, The Shadow uncovers the truth — she is none other than the doctor’s daughter. He was administering poison to cause the deaths and stole money from the swamp people. His daughter was only trying to protect the victims by stealing his money so it could later be returned to his victims. Losing his footing during the confrontation, Ellis falls backward into the quicksand and perishes.
