Smoky collapses and, finding ink markings on the bum, Lamont follows the trail to a scheme involving murder and robbery. Minnie’s husband is charitable toward the bums on the street while Minnie discovers which of them have stashed away their life savings. Upon finding that Minnie and her associate, The Professor, are giving the transients poison so they can steal their money, Lamont goes undercover as a bum named Flipper as bait for the killers. After knocking out The Professor and switching colored water for the poison, Lamont gives the police an edge in cracking the case.
