Synopsis:

Archeologist Charles Maron is obsessed by the idea that a Burmese goddess is trying to kill him. When death finally strikes, it is Sindar, Maron’s native servant, who dies. Calling for help from Lamont, who also lived in the Orient, Maron explains that he was so curious to see the idol of the goddess that he bribed his way down to a crypt, violating all the sacred laws. Every time he catches a glimpse of a little statuette, a replica of the idol, a failed attempt on his life is made. Not believing that the goddess and her eight arms are reaching out for Maron, The Shadow questions the owner of the Oriental import shop, Caleb Gruner, to learn that Maron had stolen a piece of paper — a map to the richest oil field in Burma — from Ghea’s temple. Gruner sent Babu, his Burmese servant, who killed Sindar while looking for the map. After learning where the map is hidden, Babu attempts to murder Gruner but The Shadow saves Gruner long enough to hear how he manipulated the curse. Babu is unable to keep the map for himself, which is returned to the Burmese government, while the long arm of the law catches up to the two guilty parties.
