Synopsis:
A vicious drug smuggling ring, headed by gangster Carlos Mendoza, has been operating with murder as a sideline. With the assistance of Mr. Gaines at the city hospital, Mendoza has been purchasing drugs smuggled out of the hospital and shipping them to a destination behind the Iron Curtain. Under orders from David Fairfield, Lamont is put on the case. When the present drug runner is caught stealing a bit from the stash, he is eliminated and replaced with a new runner, Larry Wilton — who won’t go along with the scheme, no matter how much he is offered or the threats against his wife, Fran. The Shadow questions Wilton after suspecting his involvement with the illegal flow of drugs and upon getting a confession, arranges for Wilton to cooperate with Margot the next time he is supposed to make a delivery. Attempting to enforce his authority, Gaines murders Fran and makes it appear like a natural death. Instead of calling Margot as instructed, Wilton takes the law into his own hands and attempts to shoot and kill Gaines. The Shadow interferes and assures Wilton that the guilty will not live to regret their crimes.
