Synopsis:
While the celebrated actor, Hugo Zarra, goes out of town for a few days, jewel thief Moonlight Joe masquerades as Zarra with the assistance of makeup man, Carl Manners. After Joe and his partner, Hug-gins, attempt to locate the Ruby of Karvahl, rumored to have a fatal curse to its owner, three deaths occur in the Zarra house. Stranded due to a storm, Lamont and Margot find themselves involved in the game of mistaken identity and murder, only to learn that the masquerading Joe never committed the crimes. Manners was in love with Lorna once before Zarra took her away and married her. In the heat of twenty years of frustrated love for her, Manners took advantage of the ruse and carried out his murders, hoping Moonlight Joe and his partner would be framed for the crimes. The Shadow uncovers the truth, and Commissioner Weston arrives to shoot Manners and learn the hiding place of the ruby. Joe and Huggins steal the jewel and flee with police in hot pursuit but face death in a car crash that might have been part of the ruby’s curse.
