Synopsis:
Elise King, wife of Stephan King and heiress of the old Stanfield mansion, is going insane. Her father was once in love with a gypsy girl, whom he tired of and cast off in order to marry Elise’s mother. The gypsy girl placed a curse on the family. Since then, Elise’s mother and father have both died violent deaths. Fearing Elise may become a victim of the curse, Stephan employs Lamont to uncover the truth. A band of gypsies has made camp outside the estate and Lamont and Margot investigate, discovering the fortune teller, Gerta, is really the gypsy girl who was tossed aside. Her close friend, Grandino, had arranged for the murders and the cunning tricks used to drive Elise crazy. Stephan wanted the family fortune and employed the gypsies to assist in the scheme. Lamont was invited only to be a witness to the crimes and verify Elise was going crazy. After the death of a nurse and Grandino, The Shadow ventures to Elise’s room and finds Stephan trying to strangle her with a rope, hoping Grandino will be blamed by the police. The Shadow takes the rope away and laughs because Stephan’s scheme has failed.
