Synopsis:

Three murders took place in three hours in the giant Page Building in midtown. No connection between the victims — except that they all had purple fingernails. Suffering from a cold, Lamont attempts to solve the case without leaving his apartment. He fails when he discovers the weapon of choice is the aromatic poison Nitrobenzene — known as Oil of Mirbane. When absorbed on the skin, the victim dies within thirty minutes. Following a trail of clues, Lamont discovers who planted the poison. Doing much of the legwork for the ill Lamont, Margot almost becomes another victim until The Shadow arrives to apprehend the killer. Wallace Page, owner of the advertising company and the Page Building, was paying blackmail to one of the victims. He used the poison stolen from the cosmetics department to murder two additional random victims to keep the police from suspecting him, while looking for a connection that did not exist.
