Synopsis:
George Shipley, an important witness who was about to expose a vicious charity racket to Lamont, met a sudden brutal death. In an effort to smoke out murderer Jesse Corning, a stickler for time, Lamont uses Mrs. Watkins’ party as the battleground for a well-devised trap. With Margot playing the role of the secretary to a racketeer from the West Coast who plans to move in on their territory, newspaper columnist Sandra Van Alton, who is working with the racketeers, starts packing her bags. The Shadow pays her a visit and offers her an ultimatum — and employs her as his newest agent in order to help gather proof of Jesse Corning’s involvement in the murder. Jesse, however, attempting to eliminate Margot and her boss, sets a trap that guarantees a successful murder. Sandra informs The Shadow of the plot. He then cleverly reverses the roles, forcing Jesse into a confession, lest he fall victim to his own device.
